Why do psychics charge money?

Many people have asked me about those with a “gift” who charge for their services and I would like to take a moment to discuss my views on this.

There is this notion within the paranormal and spiritual community that those with an ability; healing, intuition, mediumship, etc. you must do it for FREE. The broad argument behind this notion is that it is a “gift from God” that should not be capitalized on for monetary gain.

Sit down for a moment, can you think of any other professions that have a “gift” or “skill” that are sure to pay?

That’s how it is! Lawyers (arguing), doctors (steady hands and brains), singers (a voice that can carry a note), authors (a literary voice), athletes (endurance) and many more, but, just like being an intuitive or a medium, it is a skill that has been worked on and perfected. Frankly, it’s a skill that is constantly being tweaked and honed for the better.

However, it seems that only in the field of what is classified as “new age” or “metaphysical” do people really handle the “Your gift is from God, so you shouldn’t charge” objection.

As I dug deeper into why people believed such things, I found an answer! Here it is; People believe that people who are psychics, healers, mediums, etc. they are somehow closer to God because of their connection to source/spirit. Therefore, they believe that their “godlike” abilities should be freely given away.

First of all, I am in no way closer to God or Source than you are, and neither is anyone else. Second, being a psychic, healer, or medium is not a “godlike” ability; it is simply a skill that has been perfected. Take a lawyer for example, as a child he/she might have been a natural born arguer and then decided to hone that skill and turn it into a career, so he/she went to law school. Upon graduation, the lawyer still has jobs to hone her craft.

Being a psychic medium may or may not be a natural ability at birth. In my case it is something I was born with, that I perfected with practice, etc. In the beginning, like everything, it was a job to learn about the ability and how it worked for me – every psychic is different.

It is as if a born singer took singing lessons or practiced on their own, constantly perfecting, learning and transforming their voice. The same is true with any skill or ability.

So now you have someone with a natural ability that they continue to hone and now wants to do it full time as a career. What does this mean? Well, it means the same as any other job or profession that they need in order to make a living and afford a lifestyle. This is where things start to get complicated because most people don’t think about or consider the overhead of running a business other than providing for their living.

Well, first, everyone knows the things that go into making a living; RENT, PHONE, CAR PAYMENT, CAR INSURANCE, etc. A business has similar things but now you may need; a lawyer, health insurance, an accountant, etc.

You can’t pay for the basics if you’re not charging something. So just to be able to live, they need to charge a fee.

The things that affect the rate vary from; experience, being in demand, lifestyle costs, business costs, and then having to create value in the service you’re offering. There is a lot to consider in the scheme of things because you want to be fair and reasonable to both your client and yourself.

The average charge for a psychic medium is $200 – $500 per hour and these rates range from well known to not so well known.

It begs the question, “What are you paying for?”

Think about your most valuable possession: what makes it so? Chances are you either spent a fair amount of money on it or its emotional value is priceless, as in the case of a family heirloom.

So, now, let’s see what a Psychic Medium offers;

1. An opportunity for closure

2. Validations that your loved ones are still around

3. An opportunity for forgiveness

4. Tie up loose ends

5. Orientation

6. A chance to hear a loved one in spirit once again

7. Emotional healing

8. And more, depending on the client.

Now some people will find these benefits equivalent to a priceless family heirloom. These are the clients who see the value of the service provided and are willing to pay any amount to have such a wonderfully healing experience.

For those who don’t see the value, it’s the customers who will go to a less expensive reader. That’s one of the benefits of this field is that the price ranges are across the board so if you can’t afford a particular psychic you have two options;

1. SAVE because you see the value

2. Choose someone within your budget because you want an experience

Why would someone choose to pay for a higher priced psychic medium? Two main reasons;

1. When you pay more you listen more

2. Fee may be equal to caliber and experience

I think as a potential customer you should research the psychic – read the testimonials and see if you make a connection to the energy of the website or store. Look at their experience and see if it validates why they may be on the higher end of the spectrum. I also encourage people to sign up for newsletters and see if they click through to the message they’re sending; energetically, coincide with the psychic potential. Sometimes it’s an instant click and then it’s just a matter of going for it 😉

In the end, you should feel comfortable with the psychic YOU choose and if price is a factor, see if you can arrange a payment plan or if they have any special rates/packages.

All of this should help you select the right psychic for you.
