Walking through Paltinis
We should start this article by saying that Paltinis is the first mountainous city in the Carpathians, inaugurated in 1894, but also the highest part of the highlands: 1442 m high. Impressive, right?
It is also interesting to know that the architecture of the first huts built in this area was inspired by that of the alpine huts of Tyrol, Austria. It is surprising to see how such a beautiful place by its nature, can annually attract thousands of foreign tourists, delighted with the possibility of hiking in Paltinis.
No matter the season, Paltinis always shows mountain lovers a great time through many different activities. Just 32 km from Sibiu, the cultural capital of Romania, Paltinis hides in the heart of the mountains. Cindrel is surrounded by fresh bushes, spectacular ridges, and wide fields.
Paltinis is the ideal destination for lovers of hiking, because it offers countless routes and activities. You can take a walk up to the Batrana peak, through which you will be enchanted and captivated by the beautiful view that is unleashed in front of your eyes.

The hike can continue to Cindrel Peak, where you can find many tasty berries, flowery meadows and glacial lakes. The adventure is complex, since you have the opportunity to visit the Museum of Glass Images and go through the town of Fantanele where you can discover the ruins of the Fantanele Hungarian hut.
You can take a well-deserved break in the sheepfold where you can taste a delicious telemea cheese, made with care and excellence with fresh sheep’s milk.
The Cindrel massif hides wonders that can only be seen when approaching. From a distance, you couldn’t have seen the small craft shop of traditional costumes that local people still wear at big events.
There you can buy some authentic gifts for the loved ones who are waiting for you at home. Also, you would not have the chance to taste the delicious cheese coconuts baked in amber by Pastor Nea Gheorghe, who spends all his days in Valare.
Only if you linger in the mountains of the Cindrel massifs, you can take a break at Lake Iezeru Mare, a lake that has flowed, as legend has it, from the tears of the daughter of a very beautiful shepherd.
A special route for lovers can be the road to Magura Cisnadiei, a place with a beautiful view over the Sibiu stream. On the hill of Sf. Mihail is located in the municipality of Cisnadioara, which is a few centuries old and is known to be a meeting place for lovers who confessed their love within its walls.
