Girls can hit as authoritatively as boys with proper swing mechanics
Softball Batting power in girls’ softball is less focused than in baseball, and there is no reason why girls can’t hit the ball with more authority and start hitting as many extra base shots than boys. Some say that girls are not being treated fairly by their coaches, who may unconsciously think that their hitting skills are so much lower, that they don’t even have a chance to learn power hitting skills. This is true for the most part, as softball players are primarily taught to make contact and put the ball in play. What the softball community doesn’t realize is that women have a much higher work ethic than men when it comes to competitive sports, and they will just as quickly improve at something once they focus directly on the goal.

Why are so few softball players good at hitting hard?
There are very few power hitters in softball, but if you study the ones who can actually hit for consistent power, you will notice a few different aspects in their approach from what is regularly taught. Their ability to lift balls in the outfield gives them a consistent advantage to hit and get more shots. Power hitters really swing their back leg and use a lot of muscles in the buttocks and hips. These types of hitters rarely move forward and transfer their weight to the front foot. Their swing plane is not down as taught, and many of them look like major league baseball batters when they swing. If you look at the similarities of the US women’s Olympic team and major league baseball changes, they’re not too far off.

How to improve the popularity of softball.
This makes one wonder why then the swing of female softball players is taught so differently than trips to college levels. Once women’s softball shifts the focus from just making contact to a more sensible power play, the game will be twice as fun to watch and the girls will have a lot more fun. Every time you have a bat in your hand, the energy of the game resides in that bat. Unfortunately, for women’s softball, the popularity of the game can be stronger if the game is not as defense-oriented.

The game has a chance to be as popular as major league baseball one day, but only if there is more excitement with the bats. It can happen because girls have the energy to make this happen and their work ethic is out of this world. More coaches have to give them the opportunity to open their swing more. It’s time for softball players to open up to this and take the game to the next level.
