Chronicles of Madness – Episode 51

In our 51st episode of Madness Chronicles, we’ll take a look at the insanity of the Congressional spending process. Remember, insanity is a state of serious mental illness, extremely foolish behavior, and a frantic or chaotic form of activity. Let’s look at some really maddening things in today’s Congress where they don’t even know what they’re voting on.

In December, the House released a 5,593-page COVID relief bill and told House members they had two hours to read it before voting. If you read at a rate of 1 page per minute and never take a break, it would take you over 90 hours to read the bill. That is not taking notes and understanding what you read.

In 2011 the average book was 473 pages. As of the latest 2017 issues, the average book page count is 267 pages. Think of the ‘stimulus’ bill mentioned above. To repeat, that’s 5,593 pages, which would be letter size pages, not book size. For the sake of argument, if the stimulus bill were put into the average book, it would become 21 books.

So, fellow citizens, ask for a copy before you vote to put our great-grandchildren in debt with a $1.4 trillion burden. Here they come with a box of books that would fill five of your children’s backpacks. Give them a quick read. It would be like going to his mechanic about a problem with his car, and he hands you a 50-page list of things he needs to do. He says, look at it; you have 5 minutes, and the cost is on the last page $100 thousand. These are the ones chosen by the people.

The Appropriations Clause of Article I, Section 9 of the Constitution clearly calls for and requires transparency. We live in the Internet age; it’s all within the reach of anyone with a computer and a little knowledge of where to look. That is all but the ruling class shenanigans that we have allowed to take over Washington.

Our original Constitution, written by brilliant men, was captured in just 4 pages. Even with amendments, it only fills a booklet. Today, the men and women we have in Congress, who are not worthy to edit the works of Washington, Jefferson and Franklin, want to ‘cancel’ them. They want to destroy your history while driving our Republic off the face of the earth.

Senator Rand Paul, one of perhaps two Congressmen worthy of the name today, had this to say: “Too often in Congress, legislation is passed without hearing, amendment or debate. If we are going to answer to the American people, we must pay pay close attention to the legislation we pass.

The year 2020 will go down in history as the year of the death of our Republic. The American people are too busy, too ignorant of the Constitution and the difference between a Republic and a Democracy to care. We’re happy to express our outrage at Colin Kapernaek and his destruction of the NFL, but we can’t wait until next Sunday to see them play in empty stands to the noise of the crowd.
