The number one mistake people make when ordering flowers online

How often do you order flowers through one of the online flower giants and pay a $ 15 to $ 20 service fee to have your order processed? The answer is always if you order from FTD, 1-800 Flowers, Teleflora, FromYouFlowers, etc. In addition to not giving you 100% of the value of your purchase price in flowers, they are also shorting the florist that usually ends up fulfilling your order. Most orders are sent to local florists for fulfillment and delivery. The online giants, whom we will call ‘order pickers’ from now on, have a large internet presence that allows them to collect most of the flower orders that are placed online.

After completing your flower order, the order picker will pocket your service fee and find a local florist willing to fulfill the order at approximately 70% of the value. So for $ 100 worth of flowers online, you would normally pay an order picker $ 100 for the flowers, $ 10 for delivery, and another $ 20 for a service fee. At this point, the order picker will find a local florist who will take the order and typically pay the florist 70% of the order value. Yes, that is correct. 70%! They keep your service fee and at least another $ 30 from your $ 100 order. So at this point, $ 50 of your money has been used up in fees and only $ 70 goes to your flower arrangement. At this point, both you, the consumer, and the local florist are being inexcusably exploited by order pickers. Many local florists are struggling to keep their doors open due to the almost non-existent margins they are getting because the order pickers are the originators of all the business.

So what can you do? Order flowers online from your local florist! It is easy. Once you realize the convenience and savings, you can educate all of your friends so they can get better service, greater value, and save big on their next flower order. Virtually every florist has a website that makes ordering very convenient. Don’t see what you want on your local florist’s website? Give them a call. They can do anything you can dream of. Do you need to send flowers out of town? Your local florist is also the resource for this. They have a great network of florists and can deliver your flowers anywhere you need it for a much better value than any order picker. The moral of the story? When you need flowers, go to your local florist. Don’t waste your money on fees.
