The Glen Ferris Inn of Gauley Bridge – Restaurant Review

Prices and menu offerings may vary.

Located at the junction of US 60 and SR 16 on the Kanawha River, the Gauley Bridge is a real-life postcard. Located in the mountains, this small town is an open treasure chest for history buffs. You can fish or have a picnic in the park just below the Glen Ferris Inn. The falls are just beautiful and the air is crisp and clean, often cool even in August. The drive is part of the fun of visiting Gauley Bridge, following the winding road from Fayetteville. Take advantage of the panoramic views and bring lots of movies. On your return trip, stop in Ansted and visit Hawk’s Nest State Park. The view is stunning and the hotel first class. I maintain that there is no more peaceful and beautiful place in the south.

Speaking of scenery, Glen Ferris Inn lets you enjoy it all while you’re in the Gauley Bridge area (15K map). And they also serve excellent food. The crab cakes were exceptionally good, considering West Virginia is not the state that comes to mind when thinking of seafood. The menu is eclectic and includes a variety of steak, seafood, and chicken dishes. Salads are fresh, topped with in-house made dressings, and desserts are heavenly, especially the homemade butternut squash ice cream and bread pudding, which can be ordered as a combo. The service is attentive and courteous without being intrusive, and the items ordered come at appropriately spaced intervals to allow you to finish the previous selection, be it an appetizer or a salad.

During the summer months, lunch and dinner can be eaten outdoors under a beautiful terrace overlooking the Kanawha River and its falls. A popular wedding venue, it is always advisable to call the Glen Ferris Inn for reservations.
