Is Google Kid Safe Still?

Google Kid Safe

The Google Mums is a program that was designed to assist parents to monitor their kids’ internet activity without worrying about their activities being traced. Designed by a business named Google with the sole intention of enabling parents full access into their kids’ internet usage, it actually does just that. It allows parents to see exactly what websites their child has visited, the software logs the data and sends it straight back to Google. This means that Google can then look at the data and develop reports based on the activities displayed and can even link the website to specific pages in the report which gives even more detail.

One of the problems with these types of software is that they are not very secure. Children are very clever at hiding their activities from parents. A simple internet search for the name of your child can turn up thousands if not millions of hits. There are many unscrupulous sites out there that will take advantage of this and disguise their under-aged children as “celebrities” or adults. Google knows this and they have taken steps to combat this by releasing an update to the software that blocks websites that are known to disguise themselves as secure websites.

There is however another way to combat this and it is called Kid Spyware. This is software designed specifically for the protection of children and is installed directly onto the computer. Once installed, it runs in the background, unaware of the fact that it is running. It watches the computer activities of the user and sends the information back to Google when necessary. Google will still know who is viewing the site but only the exact time and sites are displayed.

So how can you get Kid Spyware installed onto your child’s computer? Well there are two main options. You could download Kid Spyware and install it yourself and this is a good option if you are technically savvy. If you are not, then there is a likelihood that a retailer of spyware accessories will stock this software and if they don’t, then they should be able to recommend a retailer to you.

The second option is to pay for the software and make sure you buy it from a trusted source online. There are a number of unscrupulous retailers out there that will sell a fake Kid Spyware program and trick you into buying it. If you are confronted with this type of scenario, it is recommended that you use a payment gateway such as PayPal to make sure that you are dealing with a genuine company. Never purchase from any site that requires you to provide personal details as this is a sign of a fraudulent site and you are likely to be scammed.

You don’t need to stop using your computer or even worry about whether your children are watching it. With the Google Mum model, it’s not even hidden. All activity is logged and will show up online. However, you will still be able to keep control of what your children are doing on their computers. They will only be able to access limited areas of the internet, which they will know not to go too far off – which is better than no internet at all!
