female insurance adjusters

More and more women are discovering the field of Independent Insurance Adjusters and I believe this will have a positive impact on our industry.

There was a time when the women you saw in the field were part of a husband and wife team with the husband as the adjuster and the woman helping them. When you saw a woman who was the adjuster, they were few and far between.

But that is changing.

Women are not only finding that they are capable of doing this work, but many have been quite successful at it.

Organizers by nature, the fitter woman has been able to understand the need for detail that is such an important part of our work. This dedicated attention to detail has resulted in a very good finished work product, and that makes insurers happy. And women tend not to be afraid to ask the questions necessary to get things right.

I met an appraiser last year, in her thirties and fairly new. He was 5’3″ and weighed 105 pounds tops. When I saw the ladder he was using, I wondered how well he could handle it. But let me tell you, he got that ladder out of the truck, installed, and was on the roof so fast that even I I was impressed. This wasn’t a wimpy ladder either! Their inspection practices were good and their scope was correct and complete.

So, to all new adjusters and those trying to break into the industry, welcome!

I think you’ll find this to be an exciting and rewarding field where you can really expand and use your talents, AND be recognized for them.
