Crate train your dog for safety

I have personally found that using a crate in the house is a great success in training a dog. A crate can also be used in transporting your pet to and from different places.

I can’t even imagine what it would be like to bring a new dog into a home and let him have free rein. Because I know how much trouble a puppy can get into when he’s not supervising it. Not to mention the accidents that happen in the potty training department when a puppy isn’t locked up at certain times of the day.

Now, for the first few days to a week when the pup spends the night in the crate, he won’t appreciate his new location. But one must remember that the little cub will probably just leave his mother. Some dogs start to feel more comfortable in the crate faster than others, depending on the composition of the dog. Make sure to leave a couple of toys and a comfortable mat for him during the time you are away from the puppy.

Under the box make sure you put a layer of plastic on the floor, then some cardboard followed by the box. Because the first week or so the puppy will have potty training accidents. Always take the dog outside first thing in the morning, this will get him into the routine of going to the bathroom outside. What I do is take a bowl of food and put it outside and let the dog feed first thing in the morning. And after a few days he will automatically go to the door to be let out and have breakfast.

Now, some people think that putting a dog in a crate is cruel, but it’s just the opposite. Because the dog wandering around the house without supervision will allow the dog to chew and eat things that are harmful to him. Which can harm his health.

The type of box I use is made of steel wire. You can get the plastic ones if you want, but to me the easiest to clean and maintain seems to be the steel one. When the steel box is not in use, it can be folded and stored, without taking up much space. I have used steel cages for my dogs for over 40 years and have never had a problem with them.
