4 tips to get more cash for your junk car

Do you have an old junk that you want to get rid of? Excellent! That means it’s time to find a company to come in and retire that old platform. You’re probably thinking “Awesome, I’ll call the first guy I come across!”, but I’m here to tell you “Watch out!” You don’t want to just go ahead and call any old schmoe you find on Craigslist. There are 5 things you need to know before you call someone to give you cash for your junk car.
Here are some tips for finding the best junk car buyer.

1. Any random guy can start buying junk cars. You could even do it if you wanted. So to get the best deal for your car, you need to cut out as many of the middlemen as possible. The best way to do this is to research your business. If they only have one listing on Craigslist… then they’re probably at the bottom of the junk food chain.

2. Make sure they have a website! If they don’t even have a website, then they are 99% of the time a small timer. That means they will give you the least amount possible.

3. Beware of scams and tricks that low level tugs will try to do to you. One of the tricks is that they will agree on a price with you over the phone, and then the story will change once they show up to get it. Before they fix it, they will come and tell you that the car is missing its catalytic converter. They will then proceed to offer you $100 less than agreed. The catalytic converter is located under the car, and the tow truck knows that most people don’t even know what that is. Even if you knew what it is, chances are you wouldn’t get under the nasty car to look for it yourself. Most people prefer to save themselves the trouble, so they agree to accept the lowest price. Be careful with this trick because it works!

4. Many junk car companies will give you a price for the car and then when they show up, deduct the price of the trailer from the final cost. This is another trick. If they were going to deduct the trailer from the price, they should have told you over the phone. So tell them no, and that you will only sell for the agreed price.

There are plenty of other tips and tricks for dealing with these companies, but here are 4 important ones that can get you more cash right from the start.
