PSP for music instead of iPod?

It seems that now that the PSP has been out for a couple of years, many owners are trying to branch out into the things they use their PSP for. If you’ve ever wondered how to download music to your little PSP, or just wondered where the music might be coming from, check out the rest of this article. You may not know it, but your Sony PSP is capable of playing MP3 (music) and MP4 (video) files. This makes it a tremendously flexible piece of hardware, and it is this that makes many iPod owners jealous! Transferring stuff to your PSP is a piece of cake, as long as it’s in the right format. The PSP itself behaves a lot like a PC, so if you connect it to your PC with a USB cable, you can transfer files between the two, just like you would a flash drive or any other removable media. It’s literally a case of using the PC to copy and paste the files, or even right-clicking on them and using the Send command to send them to your little PSP.

This will work with almost all types of files, just make sure it’s a PSP compatible file or the PSP won’t know what to do with it once it gets there. You can also transfer music from your CDs, but it’s not that easy. The transfer part is exactly the same, but before you can transfer the songs, you’ll need some kind of CD ripping software to rip the songs from the CD and store them on your computer. Just do a Google search for Ripping Software and you should find what you need. Once the ripping software has done its magic, you should be left with some music files that you can transfer to the PSP like before. The only other major place to get music for your PSP is Apple’s iTunes website. It’s possible to do it, but it’s a bit messy for my taste, so I don’t do it very often, but here’s how if you want to try it.

First of all, just download what you want from iTunes to your computer. Next, you’ll need to get some PSP video conversion software, because iTunes sites have their songs as MP4, which is often associated with video. Once you find your software, run the MP4s through it and convert them to MP3 format. As soon as they are changed to MP3, you can start transferring them directly to PSP via PC, just like before. So there you are. I don’t know if the PSP will ever surpass the popularity of the iPod for listening to music, but it’s definitely a flexible little piece of technology, and when did you last play NFS on an iPod?
