Immersion bath method: cold, hot and neutral immersion bath

The immersion bath makes the body healthy and is done in a bathtub that is connected with hot and cold water connections. This bath is taken hot, cold, neutral and graduated at different temperatures. It is also called a full bath. Next you will learn the cold, hot and neutral immersion bath methods.

A cold immersion bath is given for about 20 minutes at a temperature of 10º C to 23.8º C. Before this bath, the patient’s body is applied, including the head. A cold compress is applied with a damp cloth or towel. At bath time, she rubs her body very well. After this bath you should dry off quickly and wrap yourself in the woolen blanket. This should not be given to very young and elderly people. It should not be done in enteritis, gastritis, inflammation of the uterus and also of the ovaries.

The hot immersion bath is given at a temperature of 37º C and is gradually raised to 40º C by adding hot water. Before taking this bath the patient should drink cold water and cool down his body especially head, neck and shoulders with cold water. A cold compress is applied throughout the treatment.

The hot immersion bath is useful in dropsy – accumulation of fluids in the body. It relieves in children, bronchitis and bronchopneumonia and also the congestion of the lungs. The bath stops when the skin turns red. In chronic bronchitis, a hot bath is taken for about 5-10 minutes along with friction and rubbing after the bath. If necessary, the application of oil to the patient’s skin is carried out. It is beneficial in chronic rheumatism, gallbladder stones and urinary stones. It is not given in diseases of the brain and spinal cord, cardiac hypertrophy and weak heart.

Neutral Immersion Bath

The neutral immersion bath is given at a temperature of 26°C to 28°C, normal body temperature, for approximately one hour. Activates skin and kidney diseases as it works as a sedative. It is useful in diseases of the brain, spinal cord, meningitis, arthritis and rheumatism.

This is useful in cardiac, renal and general dropsy, alcoholism, chronic multiple, chronic neuritis, diarrhea, peritonitis and chronic diseases of the abdomen. It should not be performed in skin diseases such as eczema and heart disease.
