Get fit for that cruise

For years, you have dreamed of taking a cruise. Now it’s finally happening! You thought you were all set, and then something occurred to you. Cruises mean warm weather, sun and beaches, and that means shorts and bathing suits. You have to get in shape for that cruise!

Realistically, if you’re significantly overweight, you won’t be able to lose weight in time for your cruise. But if, like many people, you just put on a few pounds during the fall and winter, you can get in shape for that cruise.

A crash diet probably seems like the best solution. But if you lose weight fast, you’ll gain it back just as fast. And you want to be able to eat and enjoy yourself on vacation, without having to worry about going back on a diet when you get home.

First, set realistic goals. You may not be able to lose 20 pounds before your cruise, but it’s amazing what a difference 5 or 10 pounds can make.

Take a look at what you normally eat and cut out the things that are loaded with calories: foods that are high in fat, salt and sugar. That doesn’t mean you have to starve; you can still eat lean meats, poultry, fish, and fresh fruits and vegetables.

Reduce portions. Eat half of what you normally eat. And eat slowly; you will feel full faster.

Exercise! Not only will this help you lose weight, but it will tone your body so you look slimmer.

And finally, here’s something to remember once you’re on the cruise. Just because there’s plenty of food available doesn’t mean you have to overeat. Have fun, by all means, but don’t get stuffed. Eat until you are comfortably full and then stop!
